The meeting delved into the commercialisation of quantum technologies, exploring their transformative potential for computing, security, and various industry sectors.

Professor O'Brien said “It's important that the QCS Hub - with its partner universities across the whole of the UK and extensive networks across government, industry and internationally - helps the government to deliver the UK's goal to be a leading quantum economy. We were very pleased to be able to assist the committee in their work to help ensure the UK remains a leading nation in this emerging sector.”

Discussions highlighted the technical challenges of quantum computing, including error rates and the need for sophisticated error correction techniques. The need for robust infrastructure and skilled workforce development was emphasised, alongside the importance of national and international collaboration to maintain a competitive edge. Concerns around environmental impacts and national security, particularly in relation to encryption and decryption capabilities, were also addressed.
